Yesterday was something both special and inspirational. I will never be able to listen to "All you need is love" or "Mr. Blue Sky" without thinking of the service for Derek. I collected one of the acorns and will keep and treasure it in memory of one of the most talented people I had to pleasure to teach and work with. It struck me today that Derek was so naturally talented that he did not need to brag, his understated persona often hid his achievements and successes. His funeral was in-keeping with his life--inspirational, understated and done with such taste.

Derek and I go back a long way. Firstly, when I was a lecturer in Rathmines and then as a colleague in the Digital Media Centre in DIT. He was such a joy to work with. He was always generous with his help and advice . More recently I used to bump into him in Grangegorman when he was collecting his children from school. One of the good guys, such a talent and such a loss.
