I spent 4 years studying with Derek at College of Commerce, Rathmines. We were a tight-knit bunch there - collaborating with each other on various projects and debating the issues of the day. Derek was highly creative - he provided brilliant scores for many of our film, TV and radio projects - but he was also a joy to work with. A sharp sense of humour and his easy-going personality made him a good friend through an exciting period of my life. A true gentleman, I never heard him
speak ill of anybody and he was always positive and passionate. Although our contact over the intervening years was sporadic, I was delighted and honoured to speak at Derek and Aoibhe's wedding. I always looked forward to catching up and shooting the breeze with Derek and I'm desperately sad that he's gone. My deepest sympathy to Aoibhe, Cole and Cora. Rest in Peace, my friend...
A great photograph, what a privilege it was to teach you back in Rathmines.
